5 Years, 50 Projects, and a Whole Lot of Code: My Journey as a Full-Stack Developer

My journey from writing basic HTML to architecting full-stack Next.js applications.

Sometimes, you get so lost in the lines of code, debugging API calls, and tweaking Tailwind classes that you forget to take a step back and see how far you’ve actually come.

I recently realized it’s been over five years since I first started my professional career in tech. I’m Rohit Kumar, a full-stack developer based out of Ranchi, and my journey has been a continuous loop of learning, breaking things, fixing them, and ultimately building scalable digital experiences.

Here is a look back at my journey, the tech I’ve picked up along the way, and what I’ve learned from building over 50 projects.

The Early Days: Finding My Footing

Back in July 2019, I landed my first role as a Junior Web Developer at GrubWeb. Like most developers starting out, my days were spent wrestling with HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. My main focus was simply getting things to look right on different screen sizes. It was foundational, gritty work — translating client requirements into responsive websites, performing cross-browser debugging, and slowly learning how to improve layout usability.

By late 2020, I moved on to Vmak Research, and this was where my perspective shifted. I dove heavily into PHP and WordPress. I wasn’t just coding visual layouts anymore; I had to think about server-side deployment, database management, and maintainability. Page speed and SEO optimization became just as important as the code itself.

Stepping Up: Engineering Real Business Solutions

The real turning point in my career came in July 2021 when I joined Curesta Global Limited. This is where I evolved from “building websites” to engineering complete digital products.

Over the last few years here, I’ve taken ownership of complex systems. I started building scalable internal tools, workflow automation systems, and admin dashboards. When you integrate payment gateways like Razorpay and Stripe, or build healthcare platforms like Curesta Health and MS Hospital, you quickly learn the true meaning of scalable architecture. You can’t just hack things together when a business — and its users — rely on your code to operate smoothly and securely.

My Tech Evolution

As the industry has shifted, so has my tech stack. You can’t survive in this field without adapting. Today, my workflow is heavily centered around the modern JavaScript ecosystem. I absolutely love building with Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS to craft blazing-fast, visually polished UIs.

But a pretty interface is nothing without a robust backend. I balance my frontend work with solid backend architectures using Node.js, Express, PHP, MySQL, and MongoDB. Having delivered projects across various niches — from news platforms like Ved Times to immigration portals like Resettle Worldwide and wellness platforms like Comeback Massage — I’ve realized that the best applications perfectly bridge the gap between premium UI design and rock-solid business logic.

Always a Student

If there is one absolute truth in web development, it’s that complacency is your worst enemy.

Despite having 5+ years of experience and 30+ happy clients under my belt, I still view myself as a student of the craft. I continually push myself to validate my skills, which led me to earn certifications in Responsive Web Design and JavaScript Algorithms & Data Structures from freeCodeCamp, alongside programs from Great Learning and LinkedIn Learning. Exploring modern architecture patterns, advanced frontend engineering practices, and web animations is just a part of my daily routine now.

What’s Next?

Looking back at the transition from writing simple HTML scripts to architecting complex Next.js applications, my core mission hasn’t changed: I want to build modern digital experiences that are fast, clean, and fiercely user-centric.

Whether it’s optimizing an API response time by a few milliseconds or perfecting a micro-animation on a landing page, I still get the same thrill from development that I did five years ago.

If you are a fellow developer, an aspiring coder, or someone looking to build a scalable digital product, I’d love to connect. You can check out my recent work and reach out to me through my portfolio at rohitkrdevs.vercel.app.

Let’s keep building!
